message from the front lines. thought people might find this interesting. "We had a mission yesterday and my guys ended up having to do a lot of running around in order to keep the battalion initiative. If I was coach of the battalion I would have given the FLE (Forward Logistics Element) the game ball. I do not really run a FLE (doctrinally speaking) but I do always bring a small package forward to control detainees, recover vehicles and evacuate casualties. I call it the CLF (Combat Logistics Force). Mostly I made this thing up to get me as close to the action as legitimately possible, but my guys and guns come in handy occasionally. I heard a gunshot and the 1SG and I rolled out to assess the situation and found a group of men holding machetes standing around an enormous pile of blood and guts. They looked stunned when they saw us and very nervous. I thought we had caught some bad guys in the act of killing a US sympathiser when I saw the head of the goat they were slaughtering. You can imagine what they were sa ying: "Achmed! I told you to just slit his throat in the backyard, not shoot him in the street." They got real nervous with all the automatic weapons pointed at them. So that was pretty funny. The guys actually asked us if we wanted some. I couldnt help a glance at the meat, covered in flies, and a grimace, "Shukron, but no shukron." In other actions my soldiers have done some pretty decent killing. I think we have actually killed more bad guys than the rest of the battalion combined (though I have only detained 2 of the some 250 bad guys we have detained). But, our brigade motto is "KILL the enemy." Its ironic that the news about this area has slowed down. You will see very soon why this is ironic, I am sure. Well, I have a meeting. Gotta go get some Ramadan training. I guess they are going to teach us how not to kill bad guys when they detonate IED's from inside mosques." (the names have been changed to protect the innocent)

In an effort to bring clarity to the above comment, I think it should be known that it's from Jon passing on words from a "relative" of his that perhaps should remain nameless. Thought I should say something, so some of you can stop freaking about it.

Sorry for the graphic nature of my previous comment. My reasons for including it may have been selfish, but I am proud of what he is doing over there and I have complete confidence in him to make the RIGHT decision in any and all situations that may confront him.
